The Missional Church

What is the missional church? Jesus said, "As the Father has sent me, so send I you." (John 20:21) The missional church is a sent church. It is both sent and sending as it raises up believers who are responding to the call of Christ as he commands "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" and, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

In the book of Ephesians, the apostle Paul writes that the Church is the fullness of Christ because we are somehow a part of a mystical union making us his body. Just like the children of Israel are the fruit of the patriarch Jacob's body, and they collectively bear his name, so the Church is the fruit of Jesus' body through his death, burial, and resurrection.1

Hence, we are his embodiment in our communities, and it is our privilege and responsibility to be all that he would be if he were us. The individuals pursuing this life-goal necessarily become a vital part of a group of Christ-followers who value community and the everyday movement of God in their lives. We carry on his mission, his movement of reconciliation and restoration. The word missional has been used to describe the Church functioning in this type of existence, and it is 1027church's greatest pursuit. Our desire is for Jesus to transform our city through our continual commitment to his purposes and Atlanta's well being.

"Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves"

1027church is devoted to people, places, and organizations that we believe are making an incredible difference in the lives of the bent and broken, the orphans and the widows, the desperate and the needy. While this list is constantly evolving, these are a few that 1027 believes have incredible value in our local community, the world, and in eternity. Feel free to have a look and get involved!
