For the next few weeks and months we believe God wants us to unpack the GREAT Commandment as a church. Our hope is that way past the month of February 1027church desires to take the GREAT COMMANDMENT to new levels of obedience, passion, share our faith, make disciples, and plant churches.

1027church has already seen this flesh out in you over the years. We just want to capitalize on what, when, where, and how it then drives and directs us.

We are praying that the Holy Spirit can lead more people to really start drinking in the great commission and commandment. To move beyond conversations to full-blown we surrender all to JESUS action.

So here is what we hope to see take place in the next few months as we preach and study God’s word and listen to the Holy Spirit.

Jesus’ central teaching was that the greatest commandment was to love the Lord with all that you are and to love your neighbor as yourself. These two principles are inseparable and the foundation of the Christian faith. So every February 1027 tries to practice what we preach. Reminding ourselves that call of Christ is to love our neighbors literally & physically, we are committed to care for those who live next door, for the needy in our city, and for those who are thirsty, hungry, homeless, and needy across the globe. Catch up with us throughout the month of February to find out how, when, and where love wins.

Top 10 Ways to Love Your Neighbor:

10. Throw a Superbowl party with your Community Group and invite your neighbors
9. Serve at Atlanta Community Food Bank with your Community Group
8. Prayerwalk the city with your Community Group
7. Take a stroll through Piedmont Park with a dog treat, give it away and start up a conversation with the dog owner
6. With a friend or two, bake a treat and take it to your local fire station, police station, or school
5. Ask a neighbor if you can watch their kids for a few hours so they can go out
4. With a friend, your family, or your Community Group, reach out to the Carver Boys & Girls Club for tutoring, taking snacks, or helping with play time
3. Hold Coffee-on-the-Go with your Community Group
2. Pray for three people through the month of February
1. Pray for an opportunity to share your faith—then take that opportunity

Bonus #11. Commit to allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you to do ____________ this month and BEYOND.
Share it on our Facebook page as an encouragement to others.

Big Idea: Jesus came as Christ in humility and self-denial, and leads his disciples to the same.

This week we find ourselves in the story of the feeding of the five thousand. You may have heard this many times by now, its probably one of the most recognizable stories from the Gospels.

Many look at this and direct the teaching outward, to Christ. This story teaches us about Christ, that he is able to provide, that he is indeed more than enough for us. This is true.

What is interesting is if we skip to verse 20, we see Christ ask, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answers, “The Christ of God.”

So this story reveals much more than just how Christ provides, it reveals much more than “the Christ is able to provide.” It shows who the Christ is and what he leads and expects his followers to do. Interestingly Christ turns in on his disciples when these crowds are hungry and says, “You feed them.”

He places the responsibility on them. The Holy Spirit forms within us Christlikeness, and with this holiness being formed in believers, our responsibility lies within the realm of meeting the needs of our neighbors.

We do this the same way the disciples did so, leaning and relying on Jesus, because he is more than enough.

We are in a unique position to lean and rely on Jesus through the Holy Spirit, who is the abiding Spirit of Christ to believers (Romans 8:9) and is indeed send to us by and in the name of Christ (John 16:14)

Lets look at and discuss the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives to understand this better by just looking at a few verses:
Acts 1:8
Romans 8:26
Ephesians 2:18
1 Corinthians 12:11 (in the context of spiritual gifts)
