BIG IDEA: God Loves Me, because he loves me I love him and have life, because I have life I can Love my neighbor.

For the next few weeks and months we believe God wants us to unpack the GREAT Commandment as a church. Our hope is that way past the month of February 1027church desires to take the GREAT COMMANDMENT to new levels of obedience, passion, share our faith, make disciples, and plant churches.

1027church has already seen this flesh out in you over the years. We just want to capitalize on what, when, where, and how it then drives and directs us.

We are praying that the Holy Spirit can lead more people to really start drinking in the great commission and commandment. To move beyond conversations to full-blown we surrender all to JESUS action.

So here is what we hope to see take place in the next few months as we preach and study God’s word and listen to the Holy Spirit.

Big Idea: Jesus came as Christ in humility and self-denial, and leads his disciples to the same.

This week we find ourselves in the story of the feeding of the five thousand. You may have heard this many times by now, its probably one of the most recognizable stories from the Gospels.

Many look at this and direct the teaching outward, to Christ. This story teaches us about Christ, that he is able to provide, that he is indeed more than enough for us. This is true.

What is interesting is if we skip to verse 20, we see Christ ask, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answers, “The Christ of God.”

So this story reveals much more than just how Christ provides, it reveals much more than “the Christ is able to provide.” It shows who the Christ is and what he leads and expects his followers to do. Interestingly Christ turns in on his disciples when these crowds are hungry and says, “You feed them.”

He places the responsibility on them. The Holy Spirit forms within us Christlikeness, and with this holiness being formed in believers, our responsibility lies within the realm of meeting the needs of our neighbors.

We do this the same way the disciples did so, leaning and relying on Jesus, because he is more than enough.

We are in a unique position to lean and rely on Jesus through the Holy Spirit, who is the abiding Spirit of Christ to believers (Romans 8:9) and is indeed send to us by and in the name of Christ (John 16:14)

Lets look at and discuss the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives to understand this better by just looking at a few verses:
Acts 1:8
Romans 8:26
Ephesians 2:18
1 Corinthians 12:11 (in the context of spiritual gifts)

1027church is in the second week of “The Beauty of Marriage” series. We are going to spend 4 weeks learning and or rediscovering about the beauty of marriage and how much marriage is a picture of Christ and the church, the gospel. We are dealing with four important life topics: conflict, communication, sexual intimacy, and spiritual intimacy.

So can you name an example of a married couple with healthy communication? What makes their communication healthy? Why is communication with each other so hard? How is communication in your life? When was the last time you used your communication to edify your spouse, family member, or friend? Do you have your mouth under the control of the Holy Spirit?

BIG IDEA: Covenant is stronger then conflict

Scripture: Genesis 2:18-25, Genesis 1, Ephesians 5:28

This week at 1027church we start a new series “The Beauty of Marriage.” We are going to spend 4 weeks learning and or rediscovering about the beauty of marriage and how much marriage is a picture of Christ and the church, the gospel.

Spend some time this week reflecting on how God designed marriage. How God receives all the glory in marriage. Who has shaped your view of marriage? How God reformed the first marriage. And how the apostle Paul talks about the mystery of marriage and Christ and the church. How Jesus is always pursuing Israel, the bride, you and me. How should our covenant relationship encourage and strengthen us in all our relationships and marriage.

Galatians 5:25-6:2
Looking through Galatians we see the church caught in a crisis over pursuing righteousness by their works or actively placing their faith within the work of Christ on their behalf.
Paul’s line of thought can be traced from…
2:20-21, where he recognizes the death of Christ…
3:26-29, where he explains what Christ has accomplished for us in making us recipients of his righteousness (heirs)…
5:5, where the church is encouraged to wait for the hope of righteousness. This is done through the Spirit by faith.
One could say that Paul caps his letter with
5:25 by stating that we should walk by the Spirit and then goes on to explain this by saying we are to bear each others burdens.
As we have just come out of a very practical series, I think Paul’s leadership toward Christ and away from works should be thought through.
Like the Galatians, we too need faith in Christ and the Spirit as we wait for the practices of the Foundations series to be developed into us.
Take some time to reflect on how patience is developed in us by Christ and how we may use patience to seek after God intently, our own progress clearly, and the betterment of our fellow believers more greatly.

Scripture: Isaiah 66:18-24, Ephesians 2, 3, 4

This week at 1027church is our last week in the Foundations series. We are focusing on the mission of God. As we rap up this awesome series it’s important that we understand the mission of God has a church and disciples to carry out God’s great redemptive plan to reach the nations wherever they are in the world. Ed Stetzer says, “Churches that exist for the glory of Jesus Christ and the renewal of the city.”

So how are you involved in the mission of God? How as a disciple of Christ are you modeling for new believers and or believers that disciples are always on mission 365 days a year? Missions are NOT just something we do when get on a plane and go some where but everyday as we love our neighbors, whoever, wherever. Let’s do it 1027church. The mission of God has a church 1027church.
